If you want to viewDo you like making things with your hands? Are you creative or inventive? Would you like to make some gadgets like a torch or your own pinball machine or learn coding? At lunchtimes on Wednesdays the library will hold Make it @ your library sessions. There will be different projects to do every week. It will be Years 2 and 3 who will be able to come to the library on Wednesdays in Term 1 but other years will also have a turn during the year. Our first session will be on Wednesday, February 10th. It will start early, straight after eating time, at 12.40. To join in these sessions, drop into the library. We might not always be able to fit everyone in, so join early. If you miss out on a spot come back later in the lunchtime as spots will become available. If you want to view the pictures from these sessions please go to the Gallery tab on the library website.
Wednesday May 25th - You choose!
This week Year 4 and Year 5 students can drop in and choose from a variety of activities –jigsaws, construction, board games, origami etc! If you have never attended one of these sessions drop in this Wednesday. You don’t have to stay for the whole time and you are sure to find something fun to do!
Wednesday May 25th - Star Wars!
This week all the activities will revolve around Star Wars! We will bake Wookie Cookies, make Star Wars masks and origami figures, mould a Darth Vader face, make Star Wars Lego - in fact there are plenty of activities for you to have a go at. So if you love Star Wars come in on Wednesday straight after eating time – get there quickly if you would like to assist us in mixing the Wookie Cookie mixture.
Wednesday May 18th - Team Work!
This week we have some interesting projects that you can help build in teams. We have 3D construction of famous buildings, a metal car that should move if you build it correctly and a mechanical walking gorilla! There are a variety of skills and materials in this weeks challenge but make sure you come straight after eating as there are limited spots and first in best dressed!
Wednesday May 11th - Construction!
Do you like to build things? This week we have some construction sticks with large colourful matchsticks, some glue and scissors and you are invited to make whatever your imagination comes up with! You could make something useful like a box or bookmark or you might like to create an artistic piece to sit on your shelves at home. Come in and give it a go!
Wednesday May 4th - Catapults!
This week you will be making your own catapults! Catapults were used in war in Medieval times. The Catapult was a large military machine that was used to hurl objects such as rocks and spears. These catapults could generate tremendous force and hurl large objects over long distances. You will be given a variety of materials to design and build your own catapult. We can test them at the end to see whose catapult fires the furthest. We had some really interesting designs last year so come into the library and give it a go!
Wednesday April 27th
It's Term 2 and time for Years 4 and 5 to join in our sessions. We are starting off with a bang and today we are making our own torch! If you miss this session you can download the steps here and ask an adult to help you make your own at home.
Wednesday March 16th
This week you get to make your own toy! The cup and ball toy has been played for thousands of years and can be traced back to ancient Greek times. Firstly, you will get to decorate your cup with stickers and glittery paper and then attach the ball. While the game looks simple, it really tests your hand/eye co-ordination. We will have a cup and ball competition at the end to see who can swing the ball into their cup the most consecutive times!
Wednesday March 9th
This week you can have fun building some creative pieces out of our Zoob building set. Zoob pieces snap, click and pop together 20 different ways to form joints that rotate, limbs that extend, axles that spin, and more. There's no limit to what you can build. Have a look at the pictures below to get an idea of what you might like to build:
Wednesday March 2nd
Snapping monster jaws are on the menu this week! We will be using a variety of skills and materials to make your own moving monster snapping jaws. These jaws shoot out and snap when finished! They are fun to make and you can decorate yours to be whatever monster you can imagine!
Wednesday February 24th
The session this week will be paper plane making! Would you like to learn how to make simple and more complicated paper planes? This is the session for you! There will be instructions and interesting paper to make your planes from. Towards the end of the session we will have a competition to see whose plane flies the furthest. Head to the library after eating time to join in. Watch the video below to give you an idea on what we will be doing.
Wednesday February 17th
This Wednesday Years 2 and 3 will be able to enjoy a session of playing with kinetic sand. Kinetic sand is not like ordinary sand! You can mould it, shape it and build with it and instead of crumbling, it retains it's shape. There will be equipment provided that will help you make just about anything - a castle, a spaceship, a zoo - in fact just about anything you can think of! Wednesday February 10th
Would you like to learn how to make fun and interesting 3D pop up cards for your family or friends? We will show you how to make these great cards with materials you would have at home. They look amazing but are not difficult to make once you know how to do them. So pop in and learn how to make a birthday card for your mum or dad that will amaze them!
If you go to the session and enjoy making the cards you might want to try some more complicated pop up cards. Click on the picture above to watch the video and become a master of the pop up craft!_
